Vaccines, parasite prevention, and the everyday signs that tell you when something is off.

Routine care

Vaccines

  • Kittens: start at 8 weeks, boosters every 3–4 weeks until 16 weeks
  • Core vaccines: FVRCP (panleukopenia, herpes, calicivirus) and rabies
  • Annual checkup is the foundation of preventive care

Parasite prevention

  • Monthly flea and tick prevention year-round in Costa Rica's climate
  • Deworming as recommended by your vet

Daily signs to monitor

  • Eating and drinking normally
  • Using the litter box (frequency, consistency)
  • Energy and play
  • Coat quality

Call the vet if you see

  • Not eating for >24 hours
  • Vomiting more than once or twice
  • Lethargy, hiding more than usual
  • Straining in the litter box (URGENT for male cats)
  • Bad breath, weight loss, or limping
