Feeding Your Cat
What to feed, how much, and how often — the basics of keeping your cat at a healthy weight and energy level.
What cats need
Cats are obligate carnivores. They need high-protein, animal-based food.
Wet vs dry
- Wet food is ideal — high moisture, high protein, lower carbs
- Dry food is convenient but cats often don't drink enough water alongside it
- A combo of both is a great compromise
How much
- Adult cat (4–5 kg): roughly 200–250 calories/day
- Follow the label on your food brand
- Adjust based on body condition — you should be able to feel ribs without pressing
How often
- Adults: 2 meals/day
- Kittens under 6 months: 3–4 small meals/day
- Free-feeding dry is OK only if your cat self-regulates
Avoid
Onions, garlic, chocolate, grapes, raw fish, milk (most cats are lactose intolerant), and bones.
